Depression Therapy in Denver, CO
When everything feels heavy—or nothing feels like anything.
Depression doesn’t always look like lying in bed all day. Sometimes it looks like:
Moving through your life on autopilot - feeling disconnected or numb
Losing interest in things that used to matter to you
Forcing yourself through work and responsibilities while feeling empty inside
Irritability, hopelessness, or shame that you keep mostly to yourself
Thoughts that you are a burden, that nothing will change, or that you are “too much” or “not good enough”
You might also notice changes in sleep, appetite, energy, or concentration. You may have a sense that you’re not quite living your life, just enduring it.
Depression Often Makes Sense in Context
Rather than treating your depression as a personal failure, we can explore:
The environments and relationships you’ve had to survive
Losses you may not have had space to grieve
Messages you absorbed about your worth, needs, or emotions
The ways stress, trauma, or chronic invalidation have worn you down
Sometimes, what looks like “lack of motivation” is actually exhaustion from surviving too much, for too long, with too little support.
How I Approach Depression Therapy
My work with depression is:
Trauma‑informed – we consider how past and present wounds shape your emotional landscape
Psychodynamic and relational – we pay attention to patterns, meanings, and how it feels to be in relationship (including with me)
Body‑aware – we notice where heaviness, numbness, or shutdown lives in your body
I may also weave in IFS‑informed and EMDR‑informed approaches when it feels useful—especially if there are specific memories, parts, or beliefs (like “I’m unlovable” or “I’m a burden”) that feel central.
Virtual or In Real Life Counseling is a Place Where You Don’t Have to Pretend
In our sessions, you don’t have to:
Be productive
Have a positive spin
Convince me (or yourself) that things are fine
Instead, we make room for:
The parts of you that feel hopeless, angry, or done
The grief and disappointment you may have carried alone
The stories you tell yourself about who you are and what you deserve
We move slowly, at your pace, and we look for any small sparks of aliveness—curiosity, desire, connection—that might be quietly waiting for attention.
Moving Toward Something Different
Counseling can support you in:
Understanding your depression instead of just fighting it
Softening harsh inner criticism and shame
Reconnecting with your needs, preferences, and longings
Building a life that feels a bit more livable, and eventually more yours
You don’t have to see the full path ahead. It’s enough to be curious about taking the next small step.
